is there a maximum speed of flying without a license?

Recreationally, if you are flying under the rules of an FAA approved Community Based Organization, such as the AMA or FTCA, the 100 mph speed limit does not apply.

My home RC field has a good number of turbine powered jets, which all exceed 100mph. Lots of our larger EDF jets are somewhat faster than 100 mph, not to mention electric and glow pylon racers, some larger warbirds, etc.

Bonne question !

@bisco ,

"Good question! I've often dreamed of building a super fast plane just for fun.
In theory, as long as you stay below the weight limits and respect the local rules (like flying by sight, not too high), there is no real official speed limit for scale models.
But the faster it goes, the riskier it becomes for others... and for your plane.
And in the event of an accident, the authorities may laugh less if it goes all out.
Personally, I aim for the maximum speed that I can control without losing the signal or the sight.
This is where the real challenge begins!
Let us know if you're building a car, I'm interested!"

Only speed limits i have seen : nothing over 250 in Airport controlled airspace 200 in uncontrolled airspace around a non tower ditto. You cant legally break the speed of sound. But thats a environmental catcha. No mention of aircraft size or control systems and all this can be waiver specific use

How much lawyer can you afford?

If you can find a nice big field out i the country I don't think you will need a lawyer.....

Reasonably certain that for small groups, the farmer would do it for free, if you had adequate liability insurance. Better yet, if you could provide him (or her) some sort of free labor service but still have the insurance. This might not be true close to large-scale cities. The trick is to not be so big that the crowd becomes uncontrollable. Ten people is reasonable, the key importance is " reasonable "

Not being a farmer, how big a deal are rocks, and what size are these rocks? We talking block and tackle lift or are they small enough to to be hand loaded into a wheelbarrow?

So rocks in a field is not a good thing for farmers because it can get caught in there equipment and break stuff (Especially combines, and those are EXPENSIVE) so any rocks about tennis ball size and up are picked up out of the field.....Some farmers have "Rock pickers" (I big hay baler looking thing that's REALLY loud) and it picks up a lot of the4 rock though unfortunately they aren't the most accurate so some farmers just like to hire like 10 - 20 people just to go out with a ATV and a 5 gallon pail to go pick up a rocks.
