is there a maximum speed of flying without a license?

That's my interpretation at least. Part 107 is what specifies the 100mph limit.

Actually, now that I'm re-reading AC91-57C, it seems that that limitation may not apply to recreational flyers. It is unclear to me exactly how the hierarchy of regulations stacks up.
Its not mentioned anywhere on the FAA page for recreational flyers either. https://www.faa.gov/uas/recreational_flyers
I am not a lawyer and was very confused when I was on that site.

I agree this may only be for Part 107 certs, at least until I find info that says otherwise.

ok but for fixed wing aircraft made of lw-pla and foam board can i not go above 100mph without a Part 107 certification.

Conus America Speed limit is currently 765 ish sea level on a 65 degree Fahrenheit, standard federal day. Lower as you go higher. Here at 1500 meters it is around 750. More than that and you'll attract all sorts of odd, irritated people. Particularly black jacketed people with 3 yellow letters on the back

Reasonable to believe enforcing a speed limit at altitude in any form would be difficult unless you are visible to the local airport radar which does have a speed calculation and display. Could be wrong but the local constable has a max speed limit on the radar they use, but it's much faster than what a typical car can go.

If you been watching Youtube and seeing some of the elite EDF printed planes that now are flying, they are already not only hitting the 100 mph mark, but easily pushing thru that.

Wait till that gets into the hands of RC pilots who are not capable of handling that. FAA will probably put a limit on speed if it becomes a problem.

Yeah, like I was saying if you aren't causing a problem and/ or are on your own land I don't think it's an issue. It's best if you can find an old deserted field so if you do wipe out you won't kill someone.
