Total newb just trying to maiden my Simple Cub!

...and now back to our regularly-scheduled programming...

I built a Tiny Trainer w/ the polyhedral wing (stock, without ailerons) a week or two ago and took it out for its maiden today! Success!

It was a little windy which scared the crap out of me, but after forcing myself to keep flying despite the nerves I successfully racked up ~10min of flight time (2 flights) without a crash. Woohoo! I even throttled back and almost got it down to a ground speed of zero with a headwind...lots of fun and definitely a bit slower/easier to fly than the Simple Cub. Only reasons I didn't keep going was that the gustiness seemed to be increasing and I would've had to car-charge a battery to get it back in the air.

Here's the video:
Wow! I wish my early flights had been that smooth! Once you get past those initial nerves it is really fun, and also pretty addictive.
So watch out, soon you might be building more planes than you have electronics for, just like the rest of us "aviation nuts!" ;)

If you want to practice at home try the R/C Desk Pilot sim. It is a great free sim (in my limited experience) that feels pretty realistic.

I've actually looked around for a sim that runs on MacOS and couldn't find a good one! That one looks like it's windows-only too... Any recommendations for those of us using the "fairer" persuasion of PCs? ;)

As an aside, I've done some sim training using the free version of this mobile app: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/absolute-rc-simulator/id534915930

It's been super helpful working on reaction times and sorting out the whole reversed-controls-when-returning thing, but the touchscreen "sticks" are just NOT the same as analog sticks...

i have never seen a rc flight sim for mac, i would suggest running a virtual box (Oracle Virtualbox) with windows 10 64bit, and then running the flight sim on that...-

I haven't found an RC flight simulator for Mac either, but if you just want a standard flight sim, there is X-Plane 11. I know that's not the topic here, but Mac users aren't completely without aviation-related apps. :)

If you're going to run an emulator/virtual machine anyway, Bootcamp is built into all Intel-based Macs, and allows you to install an actual copy of Windows. And it's developed by Apple, so you know it will look good. ;)

an i guess that as it's an apple app, then it should have a reasonable GUI?
Oracle Virtualbox has been the easiest to set up for me.

Terrific! I have a bad habit of going out with three batteries and coming home after the crash with 1-1/2 still charged.

Aerofly RC8 by Ikarus is very good, and even includes real locations you in which can fly similar to augmented reality. It is in the Apple Mac Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/aerofly-rc-8-r-c-simulator/id1453969115?mt=12

how about Pica Sim? the Graphics are by far not the best but the physics are there. I use it to practice aerobatics and has really helped.

Wow, that looks _really_ good, though $125 is a bit steep... I'll have a good think on it.

Could crash a lot of foam board for that amount ;)

...and put in ~35 mins of flight w/ the Tiny Trainer today without augering in! Starting to get the hang of this...
