*Unofficial* FT Simple Cub

Sadly the B power pack recommended has a bell type motor the CF2822. From my own experience I find that the motor mount is easily damaged, works itself loose and the motor shaft is very easily bent. I won't be ordering the B pack as I envisage handing mine off to a club newbie and I do not want to make a rod for my own back!

Just doing a quick search of HK I think I will be ordering and using the Turnigy D2822/14 1450 Kv and a suitable SF prop or perhaps a similar motor with a slightly lower Kv rating.

At least I will be able to source new motor shafts!

Have fun!

I'm in the UK so I tend to just order the most suitable motor I can or usually, use whatever I have.

In my usual fashion I'll use a motor I already have that isn't entirely suitable. I have a 1900kv 2826 that can take a 7x5 on 3s. Should do for now.

Just wondering if the plans for the floats will be released with the Simple Cub as well. I can't wait for the plans to be released. Such an excellent design. GREAT JOB!!!!

Hi, I know that the recommended power pack is B (EMax 2822) but I'd like to know if a 2830 1300KV would also work and perhaps, what (if any) issues can I expect by using this bigger motor?

I appreciate your help.

I have not seen the floats yet, but I would expect they will be released shortly after the Cub.

I plan on trying it with a bigger (C-pack size) motor myself.

Sponz, I asked the the Tubby thread, but I'd like your input too. Do you think this would fly well with a 2205 2300kv motor on a 6x4.5x2?

I realize I'll need to come up with a mounting solution.

That might be a bit of a challenge. I think this plane might be a little too big for a mini sized power setup.

It will certainly swing the recommended 8x4.5 prop with ease - and going with a bigger prop will just get you closer to that 3D hovering and unlimited vertical performance.

I think the main thing to watch for with the bigger motor will be the weight different and moving the battery back a bit to compensate - I think the design will have plenty of lift to account for the weight though, it'll just increase the stall speed a bit.

What is the difference between the "A" and " B" size drawings please?

A-size is the normal/standard tile size that all of the previous plans have used. It's setup to print on US letter (or A-Size) and ISO A4 (metric) paper sizes. That's your standard 8 1/2 x 11 paper that most home/office printers use.

B-Size is new and meant for US ledger (or B-Size) and ISO A3 (metric) paper sizes. If your in the US, that is 11 x 17 paper. I've had a lot of request for this size to be added.
