Baby Bugatti

If I could make one other request on the plans it would be to add a scale. I am lucky enough to have a CNC to cut plans, but often when I need to convert the pdf file I need to re-scale it. Having a scale on the plans helps with this.

With the rate I am finding cool planes to build I might need another case of foam. :D

AH! YES! I can't believe I left that off. I have it in many of my other plans, but it slipped my mind on this one. Consider it done.

I went to the OTHER field near my place and gave the Baby Bugatti a go. :black_eyed: This didn't go well for me. I was having a great deal of issues with the elevator servo prior to launch. The First was I had to put the elevator 5g servo in after construction through a *little* window, as I forgot to during the build. For some reason when it was power up, it was be stuck at 100% up. Second, was there is something in my settings where when the throttle's on, the elevator throw reduced to about 30% full (discovered at the 3rd throw). I think it's something with the expo setup. ugg.

I checked the ailerons, and the seemed to be tracking fine on the ground, which the roll on launch surprised me.

When thrown up, my baby bugatti would roll quickly. I was able to get hands on the elevator quick enough on the second throw. But couldn't correct the roll fast enough. by about the fourth attempt, something broke in the elevator servo, and all I heard was a whirring noise for it. I will replace it and try later this week. I discovered two things, it moves and rolls fast and Eachine 5g servos may not be worth the savings.

I did get a little bummed. I was looking forward to flying it. I think i need some ground take-off practice.

So my noob-e-ness was unable to get a successful maiden flight... yet.

I finished a big chunk of the AirRC Pirates' Power-Pack-A Sea Duck. As a ground take-off I'm hoping to have a little better luck.

Don't be too discouraged. You will sort it out. This is still being developed and your feedback here is useful for the designer. Get the radio sorted out and repairs done. She will fly.

Keep at it FoamyDM! My first launch resulted in a powered flat-spin, so you're in good company. :p

All: I've updated the first post with the latest revision of plans, R5. This release adds proper CG marks, 6" reference scale, throw gauges, and new lower-hatch closure method.

For the hatch, I basically took my existing lower-fuse and cut the first two inches or so off at an angle. Then I glued the little 2" piece onto the nose and put some tape on the un-glued hatch portion. The tape acts as an edge-reinforcement as well as a pull-tab. You have to flex the hatch slightly to get it in and out from under the lip-catch, but it's quite secure once in. Let me know what you think, and how this works for you all. Have fun!

- EDIT - SP0NZ PLANS HERE!!:

Here is my BB. Quick build, went together well. Hopefully will have some decent weather this weekend to do the Maiden.

Flying at the field this morning. Got three flights in. What fun! See if you can find the spot where you can hear me clip the grass!

Awesome! So glad you got it in the air, and some video too. Was that on 2S or 3S?

I flew again today with my new 1000mAh 3S, and it's a little rocket! Landed a bit rough though, and snapped the tail off. It was a clean break though, so gluing back on was an easy affair. I bet the WR-foamboard would fair better; I made mine with the 'new' more brittle white foam. Still, not too bad of a fix.

I'm using a 850mAh 3S battery. Its the smallest battery I own, shot of the tiny Chicklet batteries I use for my DLG.

Where are you guys jamming in the battery? My 800 mah are too thick to let the hatch close.

Yup. That's how mine is too. I crammed it under the leading edge of the wing. Bulges a bit like a P-51 but does fly well just the same. It was all I had to get it to fly.

To get my battery to fit a little better, and leave me plenty of room to move it around for CG balance, I flipped the aileron servo so the control rods are on top of the wing. The top hatch will be 'semi-permanently' closed up once I do a final radio check, but I've got the receiver mounted so the bind plug is accessible from the bottom.

Here's the big empty battery bay now, with a nice blue velcro strip. I haven't put on a prop and done a final balance yet, but this way I have plenty of space to move it around for CG.

And the top with the hatch closed - it'll be fun to see this ripping around the field next weekend :)

Wake up! Time to fly!
hehe is that thing a chameleon and you had it propped up on a banana at one point? Seems every pic is a different color. That or my mind has finally fried from fever.

Yes, it is brown on the top and yellow on the bottom - sort of the reverse of a banana left in the workshop. :p
