Today i finished the MIP!
The whole thing is pretty light and it looks awesome!







As you can see it is a huge mess of cables but it works and i hope, that it also looks good on the camera.
And here is the controllight for the retracts.

And gear down.

Tomorrow i´ll probabely work on at the wings and i´ll build in the Servos for the horizontal stabalizer.

Hi guys!
I just want to give you a little update on my Dc3.





I printed out a Clark-Y profile and made two aluminium profiles from it.
Then i sandwiched three 5mm balsa peaces inbetween the profiles.







Then i sanded the balsa down to the right shape as you can see.
Next step was to remove the screws and then i had three totaly identical and way to thick ribs.



Well, i took a saw and splitted the ribs.

Thats it until yet, in the evening (in europe) i´ll post the secound part of this.

In the afternoon i rebuild and finished the leadingedge of the inner right wing.







As you can see i glued some balsa threeangles to the ribs so there is more surface to glue them to the wingspar.
Then i removed the litte depron thing over and under the ribs.





Next i took a sheet of depron and heated it up to 90 degrees celsius (194 degrees fahrenheit).
That´s the best temperatur to bend depron in my opinion.



And that´s the same wing before.



The next step was to build the landinglights and the reflectors.





First i cut of a strip poasterboard and added a circle.
I build the reflectors from the boxes of HS-55 servos.



The next step was to paint the inside of the parabolic mirror in silver and the outside in black.





And it works pretty good as you can see in the picture with the flash.

Next i added the LED´s from a flashlight.
And there is onely one word, which explanes this landinglight: POWER



This is a picture from about 7 meters (25 foot) distance.

Then i set the whole wing and the fuselage together and it looks pretty good

Hi guys, i´m back again with good news!

I´ve got two A22212/6T 2200kv motors for 12$ which were used in a MPX Twinstar, which has got a weight of 1,3kg ( 2,9 pounds ).
I´ll run them on 25A so i´ll probably have no trouble with the power of the motors .



I already tested them and they are runing very quiet.
Next thing i did was to mount the motorpods at the inner wings.













As you can see i attached them with flutes and next i´ll epoxy them into place.

I also found a bit of time to lay out everything to get an impression of the dimensions of this plane.

Hi guys!

Yesterday i bought a secound 25A ESC, 2,5mm² multicore wire, a bit of epoxy and the connectors for the battery and the motors.









Next day soldered the 3mm bulletconnectors to the motors and the ESC´s.



I also finnished the bombbay.







The Depronstruds you can see in the inside of the bombbay are there just to hold the walls in place during the epoxy is drying.

As you can see in one of the pictures i also solderd the mainpowercables for the two ECS´s.
For that i bought one of these red MPX connectors (which i saw the first time 2 days ago).
The diffrence between the green ones and the red ones is that the red ones have a little plastic wall between the positive and the negative pin so there is no chance of a flash.

Anyway it looked cool so i bought it.



To solder this i first put on a green connector (i onely had a green one but they mach) so the pins don´t move, when i heat it up to solder it.



Next i twisted together two negative wires to solder them to the red connector.



I made the same with the positive and then i soldered together everything together.



As you can see the pins are perfectly in line after i pulled the green connector.



Then i drilled a few holes into the fuselage to run the cables through to the wings.



Today i also build the firewalls out of a peace of 3mm plywood.

Do you have these MPX conectors in your country too?

I don't know if I have those in the US, (I'm sure we have them I just have never seen them before) and this project is getting so close to flying I can't wait!

I´m also looking forward to see it fly!

One reason is this:

I saw a few videos on YouTube with people, who build working RC cowl flaps and i decided to build a prototype.
This is all made from cardboard and after about 3 hours of cutting and gluing little cardboard peaces together i ended up with these pretty cool looking cowlflaps.
And as i said this is just a prototype with 16 flapunits.
In my model they have to be a bit larger and i think, they´ll be around 20 flapunits in total.

I also started with the engine cowl.



The cowl is also made from cardboard.

Well, that´s it for today, i was mostly twiddling around with the cowlflaps, so i didn´t made a big progress with the plane itself.

Ok guys, last week i wasn´t verry active in this project because i made a one week internship and i came home at half past 5 pm ( it was already dark ).
But i made a littlebit of progress.

Well, first i finished the powersystem in one of the enginenacelles.



To hold together the cables and keep them from shaking around i made a kind of cable clamp out of 3mm depron.



As you can see i cut out little holes and gaps into the depron peace.
Now i onely have to push in the cables (they really lock into place ) and i´m ready to go!

Next i cut out and placed the formers for the cowl.





The holes you can see are NOT to save weight, they allow air to go in and cool down the ESC.
(i didn´t want to waste the whole airflow, which is blocked by the enginenacells).

Next week i´ll have vacation so i´ll probaly make a bot of progress in this projekt.
