experiments on the guinea pig. All input welcome no bad ideas!

So in about a week I will have a fully built guinea pig and the first thing I want to do is a perform a bunch of crazy experiments on it. So as far as ideas go for weird experiments I'll let the community decide, particularly because this is a very nee at situation. I live in the countryside of rural Indiana and I also have a giant Mobil water pump. If you put these two together you get the chance to do some very explosive (literally) experiments. So as long as the experiment doesn't involve catching the plane itself on fire any idea is welcome as far as safety goes. Anyway thought this would be a cool opportunity for some of the more dangerous ideas to get some supersize.

Id like to see someone do a forest fire mod, put a water tank onboard with a servo doorand try to hose down a target.

What about a reverse forest fire mod? Where the plane drops a bucket of gasoline lol. I also might do some stuff with a saturn missle battery and turn it into a gunship shooting bottle rockets.

If you are looking for fireworks, attaching some steel wool lit up with a 9v battery never fails to amaze.

Perhaps put a big rocket engine in the back (none of that tiny estes motor nonsense with short burn time tho) so you go so fast the wings falls off and you fly a rocket.

Or just stuff it with fireworks but then it might become the fireworks.
Maybe drop rocket planes then?

be very careful, and DO NOT attempt any of this unless you are on private property. AMA has rules about "firing" objects from an RC airplane. bomb drops and the such are fine, so long as it is not powered. I also feel that if seen by any law enforcement, they would immediately get involved. fun is fun, but safety is vital.

be good, be safe.

laters,

me

Hmmmm, cana you do a rocket take of with it? maybe use a catapult to launch it? depends if you want to see it again.

What do you mean tiny Estes stuff? They have some monster F class motors out there which is the biggest motor you can legally buy in the States. Also FT did try that and the airplane disintegrated.

I'm thinking about doing rocket vertical takeoff. I would set the plane on its tail (reinforced tail for this) and have two rockets on each wingtip. Setting the rockets off at the same time might be a little tricky but at least it will be fun!

Try a fireworks fuse with the ends the same length twisted together and light it at the end!

If you wanted to try this, i would try to keep the thrust vectors as close as possible. Best case would be to have the engines as far aft as possible, canted in so the thrust line intercepts the cg. Also go electric, use a relay hooked directly to the lipo, should be able to reliably set off 4 motors, and if not, all you have to counter is a slight yaw moment instead of a massive one.

I think you are underestimating the force of rocket motors, if they were anything substantial they would rip the wing off. I have been building model rockets for 3 years and I have seen rockets disintegrate under just C motors and I think a D class or higher on the wings could be disastrous. The U.S. Navy had a C-130 nicknamed Fat Albert, and they would do rocket takeoffs with it and the motors were always mounted just behind the rear wheels.

I think that if you wanted to launch it like a rocket then have it fly normally, you would have to really reinforce the whole thing. Also, you might want to try using launch clamps to hold the plane while you make sure all the motors are lit, and then release it. That would only work with longer burning rockets but it would make sure it didn't immediately spiral out of control!

I also think it would be cool if you dropped steel wool bombs!:)

It's completely the wrong plane for that. The Guinea Pig is big and slow. It can carry quite a lot and do some crazy manoeuvres. One thing it's not is a rocket plane.

Well you could always have a STOL takeoff with rocket motors like the blue angels C-130 demos. I would try two Estes B4-P or B4-0 and test them. It would look pretty cool. But if you try anything fast like a E12 or F24 you will rip the wings off.

Well... when you put it that way it does seem a bit more questionable...
If you want something exciting to do with a Guinea Pig, practice flying it for a bit, then see how low a knife edge you can do down the strip and how long you can keep the fin touching the ground while you fly it inverted.

Be careful or you could end up on a terrorist watch list! Researching dropping pyrotechnics or launching powered missiles from an airborne platform could have you investigated for being a terrorist arms researcher!

Otherwise have fun!
