FliteTest in Phoenix RC (Model Index)

Had a lot of fun flying (well prop hanging mainly) the FT 3D model in Phoenix sim yesterday evening. It certainly is a tricky one!

Thanks for pointing out this model, Caroline.
I'd not downloaded and flown it before, but just did and it's a blast.
Much easier for me, though, when I added a bit of expo to the control surfaces!

Thanks again, rick

Thanks davidkdk.

And in case you missed it, I added a Super Corsair with retractable gear.
Know it won't be built, but it's still fun in Phoenix! :)

Cheers, rick

Simple Scout Phoenix model & Index to other models

Hi guys,

First post here, but I've been building and posting Phoenix models over at RCGroups for a couple of years.

My first Flite Test creation was the Simple Scout, but since then I've added more, so it's time for an index.

Simple Scout Info
Unzip and install the attached pkg file as a Phoenix update and you'll find "Simple Scout" in the electric list.
Detailed installation instructions: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zj2o7vx9b0315zj/Installing Model from a PKG File.pdf?dl=0

Almost forgot - you can find a ton of other Phoenix models in this RCG thread:

I did miss that... thank you.

I'm brand new to all this... and never had the opportunity to purchase Phoenix. I would have in a heartbeat. I'm going to have to go the 22 in 1 route. I have managed to download 5.5 and all the Phoenix update .pkg files. I think this means I won't have to use the included DVD (which is good... since I don't have a drive).

I take it that the Plane .pkg files contain .bmp, .png, .geo, and .mod files that Phoenix wants... is that right?

Well that stinks. Any official word? I see its no longer available from Horizon Hobby and Horizon's support info has been removed from the official Phoenix site.

In other news, for those that already have Phoenix R/C 5.5, I am back to creating Flite Test models. The FT Goblin is coming very soon!
John... thank you so much for all the models you've created. I can't wait to try every one of them. Cheers. David

You just extract or place all the provided files into the correct Phoenix directory (models?). Next, you update Phoenix, then the planes appear by magic in the model selection menu.

Sorry for being a bit vague because it was 6 weeks ago that I did it. It is really simple, so you shouldn't get any problems if youfollow the instruction. The key point is that they don't appear until you update.

As with many things, "simple" once you know how to do it. ;)

Send me a message if things don't work out as expected, rick

I know nothing!
rickp? Thank you, man. I just the flew Nutball and the Mini Cruiser. Wonderful experiences, both of them. I expect I'll come back to play with the Nutball some more. It was fun! I'm still 100% everything, as far as the sim is concerned, but what the heck? I'm having a blast! Not to mention my thumbs are getting way better at doing what they're supposed to be doing.

I had an unexpected maneuver with the Mini Cruiser this evening and I didn't even think about recovery. I just did it. My thumbs moved, I rolled over, and flew out. Granted, I crashed that thing a lot. It cost me nothing, and I believe I'm learning the muscle memory.

Thank you again for keeping this alive.

Mustang and Mini Mustang Phoenix Models

Here are a couple of my favorite Flite Test models - the Mustang and Mini Mustang.
Exactly the same Phoenix model, just in two different scales - 1.016 M and 0.622 wing spans respectively.
Both are very fun to fly, but I prefer the larger scale as it's easier to see the checkerboard nose! ;)

And these Flite Test models are kinda fun to build for Phoenix.
First I make 3D models of all the bits and pieces according to their plans, and then I assemble them watching the build video.
Kinda neat in that it gives me perspective on the relative difficulty of the different Flite Test models.

Unzip the attached pkg files, install as PhoenixRC updates and you'll find "Flite Test Mustang" and "Flite Test Mini Mustang" in the scale list.

How cool is this?!!

@buzzbomb "talked" me into getting the sim and mastering the Mustang is on my list of goals for 2019!!
Just tried it out and it seems to fly way nicer than my builds (although, that was early in my RC "career" so maybe I've just learned a bit since then...)

Also, it breaks the prop on EVERY landing... Just like real life!! (y)(y)
:ROFLMAO:

We aim to please!
The Phoenix model may in fact be easier to fly than a physical model.
Everything is orthogonal, all the airfoils are perfect, and the CG can be adjusted just so.
But Phoenix models can be tuned to be very close to physical models when you have both to play with.

So hang in there and good luck with your goal, rick

Ok. That's awesome. I never thought about HOW you were making models for Phoenix, only that the fact that you were able and willing and the models are great. Thanks again for what you're doing rickp. That sounds like quite the process.

You're welcome, buzzbomb.

It's a fun process, with less mess than building the real thing, and maybe quicker too.
Plus my wife doesn't complain about all the models littering the house! ;)

Cheers, rick

Wait, what? I thought mine was the only one... ;)

Ben's viper (the one in my avatar) has somehow escaped scrutiny by hiding in a corner of the living room but (for whatever) reason) whenever my Kraken is parked on the couch it's like a "big deal" or something... Sheesh!...

Nutball Phoenix Model

Hi chiprs,

I'm not John, but I do happen to have just posted a Nutball Phoenix model in the forum below.

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=38768404&postcount=2159

Unzip the attached pkg file, install as a PhoenixRC update and you'll find "Flite Test Nutball" in the electric list.
Detailed installation instructions: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zj2o7vx9b0315zj/Installing Model from a PKG File.pdf?dl=0
Index of my Flight Test models: https://forum.flitetest.com/index.p...enix-rc-model-index.27096/page-20#post-376142

I think it's great that you're helping the students, and hope that the Nutball Phoenix model contributes.
Happy to repaint it if the two existing schemes don't work for you.

Enjoy, rick p
Hello rickp
do you have FT-Delta or FT-flyer,
Couldyou please give link for them too…..thanks
