I ordered two battery's. one is a turnigy 800 and the other is a turnigy-nano 850. We will see how it flys with the baby packs.

I got my stitches out today. The Bloody Wonder is a bloody wonder.

Have any of you guys had the same problem I am having with the paper pulling up from the foam on the control surfaces? Both ailerons and elevator, the paper is separating from the foam after a couple of flights. I am going to cut the ailerons and elevator off and replace them with new foam sections and use pin hinges to prevent this.

Did you try the hinge method Josh showed in the old fogey plans? Basically cut and bevel the hingeline, hold it so the hinge is level across both surfaces and go down the center of the hinge with hot glue then squeagy with a scrap piece of foamboard, let cool. I found the easiest way to get my paper to peal from my foamboard was to hit it too hard with paint. We also used to soak it in the bathtub to remove the paper and use the inner depron. Had a little wedge shape plane I used to shoot out of my backyard with a string of rubber bands. I'd circle over the neighbors tree fly back turn and land at my feet, do it all over again. It was pretty cool but an awful strange use of about 30 no 64 rubberbands and my pitchfork.

In any case if your paper is peeling away from the edges fixing the hinge is just going to give you a control surface with an airplane that has paper flapping around everywhere else. If on the other hand your paper hinges are wearing out and the hotglue trick doesn't work for ya, just tape the hingeline. You don't even need to do both sides just the flat portion.

An easy fix is to cut the paper back past the point where it is peeling revealing the foam on both the wing/stabs and the control surfaces. Then, apply packaging tape, overlapping onto the remaining paper, on one side of the control surface. Its quick, easy, reliable and, best of all, CHEAP!

Oh, that's pretty much what Mr. Clean said.

Ouch! What happened here? Prop get you or was than a slip of the X-acto?

An 8*4 prop at full throttle when the motor pulled out of the base. I'm pretty sure it's going to leave a ugly scar.

I flew with the smaller 1800 battery and it flys down to half throttle or slightly lower. After that stall city. At least all it does is drop its nose.

I removed the rear fins 1/2 inch below the stabilizer, and reglued them. The glue pulled the paper free. Mental note to not glue those things over paper but peal the paper away so it's 100% a glue and foam joint.

My paper hinges for the ailerons are starting to pucker. I already installed tape on the elevator.

Doing the glue thing for the hinges sounds ok. I wonder how stiff it gets in the cold. I flew yesterday (25 min)untill my fingers got cold and today for around 1 hour.

You are flying on borrowed time by leaving the paper on your planes. Even if it doesn't peel off, changes in humidity will cause it to warp. Honestly, I'd pull all of the paper off before I build anything with Dollar Store foam.

The bloody wonder will fly with only one rear fin. :) one side broke off trying to land in the pumpkin patch behind my house. I tossed it back in the air and noticed nothing different.

Unfortunately I hit my drying shed for my firewood trying to land in a cross wind going way too fast. The pumpkin patch is small and the gusts were making me fly above the trees. Should have done some tight circles to bleed off speed.

Now I need a new prop shaft.

Hmm turns out the suppo motor I have on the shelf is a 2208/17 rather than a 2208/14, will this still be enough motor for this plane with the suppo 18A esc I bought? Have some apc 8x4 props. The article recommends 4s 1000mah packs but the motor specs talk about 2-3 cell. I have 3s packs in 450, 800 and 1300 sizes (annoyingly with 3 different connectors) would any of these be appropriate?

Also have a suppo 2208/8 and 30A esc on the shelf if needed.

Plane unlikely to be a combat plane, just a tool around plane.

Since our foster dog mangled the champ when the battery cut out trying to fly by the little guy and I needed to order more parts for it I ordered a 3mm prop saver from hobbyzone It should slip over whats left of the shaft...................

You could try the 2208/17 if it doesn't work out you can always get the /14. It try a 9" prop on the /17 instead of the 8*4...................The 2208/8 will give it more pep, but with it being a high KV motor a 6 or 7 inch prop would be my starting choice. (and I believe less torque but higher speed potential.

Hobby King is starting to anoy me.........They never have anything in stock in their USA warehouse........and if they do they want 20 dollars to ship because something is screwed up with their link to the US postoffice. (and they hope to fix it soon.) Or I order 2 2200mah nano batterys from the USA warehouse and some how they are getting shipped from hong kong. Ug.

I finally got my servos in from Hobbyking and, racing the sun after work, installed them and took the Bloody Wonder out for her maiden. Straight, true and like a bullet, I am ecstatic about this plane. I will have to adjust the throws, I erred on the side of caution and the roll rate was too slow, but that's an easy fix. Now that I know where the battery needs to be I will probably put it inside the power pod for aesthetics, but other than those little things, perfect from the toss. Another great plane Flite Test, keep 'em coming.

New power pod in progress. I bought a piece of scrap plexiglass to use as a protector when I work on planes. Living room floor or kitchen table don't matter. No glue marks no knife marks.....
