Firstly Sorry Sorry Sorry for not visiting the forum for a while but unfortunately work has got really hectic at the moment. Touch wood life will return to normal again soon.

Is it pretty easy to wire up the OSD?

I actually did a video on this with my iPhone but the video had a major glitch . . . it was fliped and inverted :( I will do a video on this again.

Look its not too hard if you can read basic wiring. Having said that the documentation is all over the place. I've also set mine up a little more complicated Looking than most because I can run the Video TX with and without the OSD depending on which model we use, so I have a couple of extra plugs on mine. Its one of those project you have to start and then it all makes sense. Hope this is of help

Cheers
Paul

Hey Guys

Love your videos. Keep them coming.

Thanks man, I've been having a lot of fun doing all this with my son and glad you're enjoying them. In any case I'm sure you will be happy with it all. The biggest key to range with the standard system is getting the ground station up as high as possible. My friend had the same standard RX mounted about 6ft up and had issues with range, and ours is mounted about 9ft and it makes the WORLD of difference. RCModelReviews brought this up in one of his videos.

That 5.8GHz 200mW system looks great. Couple of Newbie questions though:

1. How much Tx power can you legally use here in the US?
2. I fly 2.4GHz RC. Is the 5.8GHz the best choice, or the 900MHz?

I'd like to give this a try, but want to avoid making stupid mistakes in equipment selection, or end up in FCC prison for using too much power ;)

Hey Guys,

I just purchased this. It's in the mail; and I just realized that I need something to power the receiver.

I'd like to use something that's basically the equivalent of a car battery... It's a 12v rechargeable power tank. It has alligator clip outputs as well as power plugs and cigarette plugs. However I noticed that the input power for the receiver is 5 volts direct current. What should I use to properly power the reciever? I don't want to burn it out -_-

Thanks,
Christian

Hey guys,

For $63 I figured it was worth taking a chance on the 5.8G system on HK. At this point I'm only planning on trying FPV with the model in visual range anyways. I'm hoping to use this as an assist for my aerial photo and video work...

So my plan is:

1. Connect the 5.8G system to my GoPro video out
2. Use a USB video capture device to drive the video back to my laptop. I have a pretty bright laptop, but some form of hood may be needed to keep the glare to a minimum...

Any thoughts on this?

I'm actually thinking about doing the same setup (as soon as i can afford a gopro) but please let us know how the image quality is and how good the overall experience is :)

Will do! Actually I have this all on order now (but one item is backordered and we'll have to wait for the HK elfs to finish making this)... ;-)

I plan do to a build log on this when it is ready...

Hi Guys,

Just a very quick update. We finally got to try out the FPV system using a Skew Planar and Clover antenna and I must say I was blown away. Talk about a Rock Solid video signal!! I will hopefully edit the video today and upload it along with a complete run down.

Hi Guys,

Here is the video I promised. This is the exact same 5.8Ghz Hobby King system but this time without the Rubber Ducky Antennas that come with it. I've used the IBCrazy Skew Planar and the Clover Leaf antennas. Sorry for the long video but I wanted to show the model over head where the MultiPathing occurs along with it at a distance and banking. I'm really happy with these antennas :D

I want to next test the range of the Radio Control System before attempting some longer range flights :D

Just a quick warning when you use a USB video capture device on a laptop there is a slight delay depending on how well your laptop performs, so your plane might not do exactly what you want it to do when you want it to. I know this from deploying with the marine corps we would bring xbox's and hook them up in that fashion and play FPS's. It was quite annoying when the computer would kill you and you wouldnt know it until a second later.

Thanks for the heads up John, when flying we're actually watching a video feed directly to the monitor and the lag is almost nothing. The capture you see here is to a MiniDV camera.

Colorex,
We did make the antenna's ourselves. I actually also made a set for a friend while I was at it. The 5.8Ghz antenna is tiny and fiddly to make but well worth the effort.

Hi Guys we got a very last minute flying session in just before it got dark and I was surprised with the Hobby King Sony Camera. It works really well in low light. In any case it gives you a good idea what to expect. I'm thinking I wouldn't mind trying a night time flight

Your video has convinced me to get the Remzibi OSD. The originals are supposedly $120 compared with the Chinese copies @ $99. We'll see how difficult it is to order an original since you have to PM Remzibi on RCGroups. I sent him a PM so we'll see what the availability and shipping times are.

I actually told him he should set up a page with a PayPal Shopping Cart so people can buy with minimal fuss. Its a pain that he hasn't done that. One of my friends also just purchased a Remzibi from him and he's very happy with it. I will be getting rid of my GPS reading in the top left and replacing it with the RSSI from the Radio . . I love the fact that its so customizable.

Even though I made my own Clover Leaf and Skew Planar, I've added a link to IBCrazy's site so people can purchase directly from him, like I've done with everything I got from HK, I can't do that with Remzibi and its kind of frustrating.

The OSD really takes the stress out of flying in a big way, you'll love it!
