Thank you all, I am really enjoying the build. It all looks good now until I play "lawn dart" the first time...

I created a set of LAU-129 missile launcher rails for the F-16. Similar to the style Freewing uses for their jets but this incorporates a keyhole mount based on a 4-40 (3mm) bolt. It allows for adjusting the tension and mounting just about anything you want with just two bolts. To install the rails just clean out the end of the wing for the mounting tab if needed and glue in.

I will be making two AIM-9 missiles using model rocket body tubes to keep the weight to a minimum. The following body tubes work out to be just right for the 1:12 scale of the F-16; T-10.5 Size (.422"/10.72mm ID, .448"/11.38mm OD, 18"/457.2mm L, wt 5 gm). One tube will make two missiles.

that's awesome! Does it seem a bit big for the model though? The length looks a bit off ... edit: Might just be the perspective :)

Here are the missile launch rail files and spec sheet from the manufacture for reference.

For the keyhole I am using 4-40 nylon bolts from McMaster Carr, PN: 94735A725 and will post pics of the missiles when i get started on them. If you buy nylon bolts get the longest ones (1in.) they have so you can trim them to any size you need. They trim easy with a razor blade.

Keyholes are 50mm centers.

With respect to scale, I based the models on 1:12 scale, which is what the F-16 works out to be. For you math haters check out these calculators; http://scalecalculator.com/ and https://www.ginifab.com/feeds/cm_to_inch/scale_converter.html .

My printer settings: Ender 3 Pro - 3D Solutech PLA - Silver Metal, no supports

Thanks!

A note on the math; the scale of my F-16 design is closer to 1:13 (small difference, I know), since the wingspan is 30in, and the real one is 32ft-8in. (392/30=13) It equates to about a 10% difference in scale factors, which could also be why it looked just a *tad* big to my eye.

My Super Hornet is designed to roughly the same scale, so the rail will work for either one. I'll just scale it down to 1:13 size. :D

Thanks for sharing the files! I suggest you also put them in the Resources Section so they're readily available to everyone else who doesn't follow this thread. :)

Thanks for the clarity on your scale and wingspan measurements. It’s interesting that my Signal Squadron books calls out 30ft for the span. I will be sure to up date the files and post them to the resources page at 1:13.

Thanks for the great design!!!

Base coat all done.

Updated the missile launcher rails to 1:13 scale.

I have filled out a request on the resources page and it is waiting approval.

That is beautiful! It makes me really want to build one! Would one of those cheapo 64 or 70mm 5 blade edf’s work in it?

I think you would be ok with any 70mm EDF and 4S battery between 2200 - 3600mAh.

This is what I have for the power system:
- Freewing 70mm 12-Blade EDF 4S w/ 2849-2850KV
- Castle Creations 75A Edge Lite ESC
- 3600mAh 4S 14.8V 50C LiPo
