my goal is not to design it from dtfb. my goal is to take an existing kit, and make it rc without modifying it too much, and for it to fly without a motor.
Others will have more experience in this area than I do - I haven't touched a balsa kit in over 40 yrs - but you might be better off with foamboard buddy. I'm not sure you realize what you're getting into.

From the original 3 swappable's, I built the FT flyer and the FT Delta (with my son's help), I must admit the Nutball never appealed to me.
The Delta was a pain to fly, so I never really took to that one, but the FT Flyer is a great plane. I always fancied building a bigger version but with ailerons. I have fond memories teaching my son to fly with the FT Flyer.
