I seem to be having a hard time finding it lately here, only one of the chains here sells that particular brand and last time I was out I found that 3 of the six stores here were out of it so I bought everything the other stores had which amounted to 34 sheets so I'm good for a few days anyway

This was back in the 80's when U had to build up time to move on to the bigger stuff. Most folks flight instructed. I was lucky and got into powerline and gas pipeline patrolling. I also did three summers of banner towing in both the Super Cub and the Citabria.
Wally world sells it fairly cheap here. Tail servos in and all structure work in the wing box is done. Power pod is made and ready to install when I get to the front. Figure I will start skinning this a bit starting from the back and work my way forward. Turtle deck skin was the first and went pretty well, its one piece foam board folded to shape, fit was pretty good just a little paper tear on the right side but no biggie. Looking like a Piper now.

Did a weigh in just to see where I was at and I think that 532 grams for 55" wingspan with two servos and main landing gear in already is better than I expected considering the wing was 2 sheets of board pretty much with a 1/8 basswood spar running up each wing section. Feeling very good about this project. Time to mount the power pod, which is basically the FT mighty mini power pod scaled to give proper thrust angles and fit where it needs to be. Motor is a 3536 1100 kv and I plan on a 3s 2200 mah for the battery to start with , which I think is plenty but I'll see once it fitted out and wrapped, weight will definitely double for sure.

Like I said starting from the back and moving forward. The next step was to mount the wing and get the struts worked out. The struts are hinged off the wing and hook into a loop on the fuse, with just enough tension to keep it snug. Haven't glued in place yet as I have some sanding , sealing and paint to do before a final set in but everything thing is nice and tight as is so thats a good thing.

This girl is ready to finish out, a couple of pieces on the front end and its ready to skin the rest of it. 3D printer coming tomorrow but I made foamboard wheelpants because Mama says I can't open printer til Christmas . I'm hoping this version of them will convince her otherwise. Just about to put the front one together , they are a little wide but right shape and size so I can live with that. Next post this plane will look a lot different than it does now.

Wow it looks like the prop & motor are only mounted on that little bit of foam power pod? Wouldn't it vibrate/wobble around? U making me want to put pants on mine. Fiberglass Specialties has the Cub pants for the 1.4 scale. Hmmm?
